What would we talk about if we went on a walk this week? This is what I would say…
If we went on a walk, I would tell you I am having such a great time writing this blog! I have never been a “writer” in the formal sense, and it’s a little uncomfortable to think about people reading what I have to say. But blogging is liberating because it’s OK if you aren’t formal or perfect or technically correct. It’s about having and using your own voice, and hoping that it resonates with others. And I know that it won’t resonate with everyone and that’s also OK.
If we went on a walk, I would tell you how EXCITED I am that I’m getting a new camera! My parents are so supportive of my interest in photography that has developed over the last year and generously offered to get me a Nikon DSLR camera. How cool is it that I’m 47 years old and my parents still go out of their way to support what I do? The Nikon has some amazing capabilities which will really impact the quality of my photos. Lots to learn to utilize it properly!
If we went on a walk, I would tell you that I am in the midst of a job search. My department was eliminated in August, and so I’m actively looking for my next opportunity and challenge. I’m looking forward to finding something that I can really engage in. In the meantime, it’s a pleasure to have a little extra time to organize some things around the house and spend more time with the kids. Other than maternity leave and vacation, I haven’t had time off since 1990.
If we went on a walk, I would tell you how annoyed I was yesterday at my son’s football game. The team they played quit halfway through the second quarter. Quit! According to the coach, they couldn’t compete so they didn’t want to play. What are they teaching the kids? Isn’t it good for every child to learn how to lose, and even lose badly? These kids are 13, so it’s an age where they can certainly handle it.
If we went on a walk, I would tell you that I’m looking forward to next weekend. A close friend is getting married on Saturday at a venue on the Connecticut shoreline, and it is sure to be quite the party! On Sunday, my daughter’s boathouse is hosting the Head of the Riverfront Regatta on the Connecticut River in Hartford, CT. It is a huge event with hundred of boats and athletes participating. Please keep your fingers crossed for good weather next weekend.
If we went on a walk, I would tell you that I just painted my front door! My door was a classic black, which looked great, but I thought as “The Front Door Project” I needed to jazz it up a bit. It is now a lovely “Autumn Purple” by Benjamin Moore. My house is golden-yellow, and the purple complements it very well and should look great with my plantings come spring. So far I have received rave reviews on the selection (even from my husband)!
What do you have going on this week? What would you tell me if we went on a walk? Hope to learn something new about you!

My name is Deb Cohen, and I am a lifelong resident of Connecticut, a lover of all things historic and New England, and a realtor who helps buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals and dreams. When I’m not working, I enjoy life with my husband, our two adult children, and our two rescue pups. Renovating and decorating our historic home, dating to 1800, is another favorite pastime.
If we went on a walk, I’d really want to talk about your new camera. 🙂 I joined a photography club a couple of weeks ago because my goal is to buy a new camera, and I’ll take all the help I can get to get up and running. Your purple door sounds exciting, I love the yard art in the photo above, and I’d sincerely wish you all the best in your job search. 🙂
Thanks so much Judy! I’m hoping my new job could somehow incorporate all of the creative things I love to do. In terms of the camera I’ll let you know how it goes! My Dad is the research guru and so I feel confident that the Nikon he selected will be great – I can’t wait to try it out!
Hi Deb, glad to hear so many exciting things going on for you! Best wishes in your job search, it’s a jungle oput there! I’m also glad to hear you painted your front door purple, I love mine, my hubby thought I was crazy! BTW great idea for a post.
Thanks Tina I’m glad you liked the post! And you have a purple door too – yeah! I was a little nervous especially when I first started painting it – I thought it looked like Barney 🙂 but it dried beautifully and looks great! And thanks for the best wishes on the job search!
A purple door! I love it!! 🙂
Thanks Susie! A bit of a risk but I’m happy with how it turned out!
