I took this photograph earlier this week while on a leisurely walk through the historic district in Farmington, CT. I spent a couple of hours slowly wandering the streets of the district while practicing with my camera, taking pictures of pumpkins, stone walls, white picket fences and of course the historic architecture.
As I reached the end of one particular street, I had to turn either left or right. But straight ahead of me was this charming home, absolutely radiant with the bright orange foliage on the tree and covering the landscape. The sunlight filtered through the trees creating a stunning reflection on the French doors leading into the home.
All I could think to myself was “this is fall in New England”. I shared this image on social media yesterday and by the end of the day it became my most liked, commented and shared image ever. I hope you enjoy it, too.

My name is Deb Cohen, and I am a lifelong resident of Connecticut, a lover of all things historic and New England, and a realtor who helps buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals and dreams. When I’m not working, I enjoy life with my husband, our two adult children, and our two rescue pups. Renovating and decorating our historic home, dating to 1800, is another favorite pastime.
So beautifully homey, warm and inviting. Lovely shot, Deb.

Thanks so much Janet!
Charming!
Thanks so much!
Great ambiance of Fall! Your profile pic made me smile – it looks like the same necklace I have, only in white, silver and black:)
Thanks so much! I actually borrowed that necklace from my daughter 🙂
This is truly a lovely New England home. It’s got it all – you did good. 🙂
Thanks Judy! My lucky day for bumping into it!
See, this was what I expected last month in MA and sadly didn’t get 🙂
Truly gorgeous colours.
Yes, September is too early unfortunately! It’s really about a 3-4 week window and it changes a bit every year depending on the weather variables and can be quite different in VT vs. CT, for example. Hope you can come back!! Columbus Day weekend (around the 10th or 12th) is usually a very safe bet 🙂
Just gorgeous!
Thanks so much Norm!
Really great picture!
Thanks so much Jan!
Wow – that is gorgeous! It is exactly what I imagine when I think of autumn in New England. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I’m so glad you enjoy!! It really just captures everything I love about fall here 🙂
It’s the perfect image of autumn! All these pictures make me want to visit New England.
Thanks, Connie! Hope you get here! Definitely come in the fall, although summer on the coast is wonderful too!
Such a cozy looking home! Lovely photo, Deb!
Thank you! I loved it 🙂
Beautiful….if only it would stay this way for a long time…..Thanks very much Deb!
If only! I think I may have captured it just in time! With all of the rain and wind yesterday I’m sure many of the leaves are off that tree now! Thank you Nora!
That does capture the spirit of autumn around here. Good job!
Thanks Dan! I came upon it at just the right time, for sure!
