When I began blogging earlier this year, much of the advice that I read told me not to wait until everything was “perfect” with the look of my blog before starting. I was new at using WordPress and overwhelmed by the number of themes available so I just picked one randomly.
I have to say I never really liked it all that much! But I thought it was more important for me to just start blogging to see whether or not I enjoyed it instead of fussing around with the theme.
I actually think that was great advice, but I started itching to make a change to my blog theme earlier this fall. I partnered up with an old high school friend of mine, Krys Caywood of Krys Caywood Designs to help me create a logo.
When I first reached out to Krys, I told her that I wanted something with a door (so creative and original, right?) She came back to me with a variety of logos to choose from, some of which had a door. But…she used that creative brain of hers to give me a few other ideas.
My favorite was the pineapple!
The pineapple has become an enduring symbol of welcome and hospitality over its history in the United States. The pineapple was an exotic and expensive fruit when Colonial Americans began to import it from Europe, and so it was reserved for the most special of guests.
Starting in seaport towns on the East Coast, the pineapple began to be used by architects, artisans and craftsmen to decorate both inside and out on items such as gates, newel posts, furniture and more. The pineapple motif was especially prevalent on or near the front door.
So what better symbol to use to welcome all of you to my blog? Whether you are here for one post, or are already a subscriber, I’m happy to have you!
I still have a number of tweaks to make, but rather than wait for perfection I wanted to just get the new look out there. Please let me know what you think, and certainly let me know if something isn’t working properly!
My name is Deb Cohen, and I am a lifelong resident of Connecticut, a lover of all things historic and New England, and a realtor who helps buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals and dreams. When I’m not working, I enjoy life with my husband, our two adult children, and our two rescue pups. Renovating and decorating our historic home, dating to 1800, is another favorite pastime.
? yeah! It looks lovely ?
Thanks to you!!
Yes, Deb, that is a great logo design, perfect for what your blog represents! I love the new look too!
Thank you so much Tina!! I read a couple of your posts yesterday – hope the comments came through! They were great 🙂
What a beautiful, polished look! So exciting! I totally hear you about the “just get started” – people told me the same thing. I used a free theme at first, then upgraded to a theme I liked better. I haven’t done anything about my logo — I would love to give that an upgrade someday soon. Good timing — you have the beautiful pineapple door knocker giveaway on your Instagram account, and now a beautiful pineapple as part of your logo 🙂
Thanks so much Meredith! Glad you made the connection with the pineapple doorknocker!! I have more work to do on the site but I already feel that it looks so much nicer. There is always a long list of things to do so I have to try to tackle one thing at a time 🙂 and in the meantime just keep doing what I’m doing! If you get around to a logo and want some help Krys does a very nice job and she is reasonable!
All hail pineapple, classic welcome emblem, indeed! I feel welcome and also, I am sad we’re out of pineapple! hah! And of course I love this color scheme, too 🙂 Quite nice!
Thanks so much Joey!! Love the pineapple as a symbol but strangely I don’t like to eat it…what’s up with that?? 🙂
So beautiful! I love it! And what a great logo – a pineapple 🙂
Thanks Stephanie! Still so much to learn about WordPress but it’s a start. Glad you like the logo!
