Since I started blogging, I have been reading and following a number of other bloggers, because I find it interesting to see what others have to say and I love to use them to get ideas on blog posts and formats, among other things. One type of post I have grown to enjoy is “If We Were Having Coffee”. A number of bloggers use this to update their readers on what is going on in their lives (as if they were having a conversation with someone) and I like that it lets me know a little more about the writer.
Along those lines, I am trying out “If We Went on a Walk”. As much as I enjoy coffee (and believe me, I do!) my blog is all about getting outside and walking around and enjoying the environment wherever you are. I love to walk with someone else and chat as we go. It’s an amazing way to get some exercise and keep up with a friend or loved one! If I plan to do some serious picture taking, however, I go alone. I can assure you I’m quite annoying when I need to stop frequently to get a shot!
So…this week, if we went on a walk, I would tell you how excited I am that school is over on Tuesday. Woot woot! I love when my kids are off for summer almost as much as they do. I actually do work, but it’s so nice to be able to relax with them at night without the pressure of sports and homework. Plus no stress in the mornings!
I would tell you that my wonderful aunt and uncle are in town this weekend from Florida. They are staying with my parents, but we had a great family dinner last night and I will visit again this afternoon and tomorrow. I love them both and wish we could see them more often. I think a winter trip to Florida is in my future!
I would tell you that my daughter has made me proud this year once again as she acts as Team Captain for a Relay for Life team at our hometown annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. She and her friends raised over $5,500 this year, a 10% increase over their fundraising from last year. Amazing what our teens can do when they set their minds to it!! Who said the youth of today are lazy and don’t care about anything but their cell phones? She is also donating her long gorgeous hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, which provides wigs to women cancer patients. If you have 8 inches of untreated (read, no color!) hair you are a candidate for donation, too!
I would tell you that I have to spend the night OUTSIDE tonight at Relay as a chaperone for my daughter and her friends. This is a sacrifice as anyone that knows me can tell you. I do have a small tent and it isn’t supposed to rain, so that’s in my favor!
I would tell you my son won two goldfish at a fair last weekend and brought them home, much to my dismay. One is still alive so we decided if he made it this long we should keep him. The deal is that they are HIS goldfish, so we went off to the pet store with HIS money to get a bowl, a net and some goldfish food.
I would tell you that despite all of the above, my week wasn’t perfect. I have a job at the moment that isn’t giving me too much satisfaction, and work takes up a big chunk of your life. I’m riding it out for now and putting in my best effort. Spending time outside of work on creative endeavors like photography and blogging, as well as spending time with friends and family, makes all the difference and gives me the balance I need.
What would you tell me if we went on a walk? Tell me at least one thing about your week. Maybe we have something in common!
My name is Deb Cohen, and I am a lifelong resident of Connecticut, a lover of all things historic and New England, and a realtor who helps buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals and dreams. When I’m not working, I enjoy life with my husband, our two adult children, and our two rescue pups. Renovating and decorating our historic home, dating to 1800, is another favorite pastime.
I’d love to walk in the neighborhood of your pic. Quaint:). I’d tell you this week I’m juggling work and summer kids’ schedules, as usual. That I cooked a mean Sunday dinner. And had the best jalapeno margarita 69 floors up in Chicago. All good!
Yes! The crazy summer schedule 🙂 I can relate! And that margarita sounds delish!
I would say that I only see my best friend about twice a year and she was in town this weekend. We didn’t get to see each other as much as we would’ve liked, but we had such a great time when we did! What a nice post!
Thanks for sharing Elle! Sounds like a great weekend. Wonderful to see a good friend 🙂
Love this theme! I sympathize on walking by yourself because otherwise you just make everyone wait for you–I’m the same way! (No surprise there.) My parents and my brother are geologists so always stop to take pictures of geology (growing up this meant pulling over the car on road trips in the middle of nowhere, ha!). I hope the Relay for Life went well! Hooray for summer vacations : )
Thanks, Susie! I have to remember that not everyone is obsessed with homes and architecture like I am! Relay was great – my daughter walked over 20 miles, raised over $5,500 (her team) and she donated her hair – very proud of her!
It sounds like you had a good week – family, friends, charity, and the end of school. Jobs – well that is a whole other topic and I spent the better part of my business career in Human Resources. 🙂 We took an overnight trip to the mountains, spent yesterday at the beach, have been weeding in between, and bought material to start a new quilting project when I can’t be outside enjoying the summer. 🙂 Hope your kids have a wonderful summer and congrats to your daughter for being so caring about others.
Thanks, Judy!! Sounds like you had a wonderful week 🙂 my Mom is a huge quilter – I hope to try it one day!
