Over my time blogging and “Instagramming” (hey, the word is in Merriam-Webster!), I have enjoyed finding other blogs to follow that celebrate the New England region. I have a few favorites, and I recently asked my social media followers to share theirs as well.
I am particularly interested in quality blogs that feature all that New England has to offer, whether it be scenery, architecture, local products, food, history, travel – you name it. I limited the list to people with blogs (not just social media) that have been actively publishing new posts on a regular basis. I will have to create a social media favorite list another time – I have a few!
And how do I define a quality blog? Quality to me is relevant content, an authentic voice, great photography, and a format that is easy on the eyes. Obviously all very subjective things! This list was crowdsourced and is by no means comprehensive, so let me know if I missed your favorite.
A Variety of Blogs From All Around New England:
- Classy Girls Wear Pearls – This blog is by Sarah Vickers, wife to Kiel James Patrick and co-founder of the company of the same name. While this has grown into something more than just a simple blog, it is most decidedly all about New England living and it features stunning New England photography. Both the company and couple are based in Rhode Island and focus on American made products.
- Northeastern Nautical – Julia is based in New Hampshire, and she shares beautiful images that have a vintage quality about them. She seems to have an old soul, and that comes through on her blog, which is a combination of style, travel, and recipes.
- New England Weekender – Nicole, her husband, and her rescue dog Francis live in Connecticut, but she travels the six New England states writing about everything from spooky destinations, to favorite ice cream shops, to romantic getaway weekends.
- The Coastal Confidence – Another blog with beautiful images and a blend of topics. From tips on attending a Patriots football game, to a covered bridge guide, to pizza places to visit in Connecticut, Aubrey covers it all.
- New England Fine Living – An online magazine run by Linda Davis, a Massachusetts resident, about adding some of the finer things in life to your day, like sipping tea out of a china cup or picking out a scented soap. I really enjoy the Travel & Lifestyle section of her site, with articles about New England travel and history.
- Boston Day Book – Everything about Boston as narrated by sisters Laura and Natalie, who live in Beacon Hill and South Boston, respectively: dining, neighborhoods, shopping, events, family, and more.
- One CrafDIY Girl – Marissa’s blog is similar to other lifestyle blogs but with an added bonus. While she writes articles about travel, recipes, and such, her special talent is sewing clothing with a definite New England sensibility. So impressive!
- Preservation in Pink – Kaitlin O’Shea works in the historic preservation field and resides in Vermont. With my love for historic architecture, I enjoy seeing her photos of various Vermont buildings and her educated take on all things preservation related. Kaitlin and I met through social media, and she interviewed me as part of an ongoing interview series here.
And One New England Vlog:
- Trout & Coffee – Created by Kyle Finn Dempsey, this YouTube channel features videos from throughout New England with absolutely stunning videography. I have never seen anyone capture fall colors like he does. Simply magical!
Choosing these few blogs to feature was a challenge, but I hope these suggestions provide some great reading (and watching) for you. All of them provide ideas and inspiration and are the perfect place to visit if you need a little more New England in your life. Check them out and let me know what you think!

Have you always lived in Connecticut?
Always 🙂 I went to college in Virginia but other than that have always been in CT. I love New England though I don’t love winter. So I could imagine myself living elsewhere when I get older (meaning retired!) to avoid that, but ideally would have two homes. So I got some work to do!
So many people move south in retirement, or do the snowbird thing. I think I could snowbird, within reason, but honestly, I’d be delighted to escape our hot and humid Midwestern summers. I think I’m more apt to summer. I much preferred Nova Scotia, Quebec City, Mackinaw Island in Augusts past.
But then, I think, how should I know how I’ll feel in 20-30 years’ time?
