For some time now I have been meaning to join in with others in sharing door photos on Thursdays, a weekly challenge started by my fellow blogger Norm at his blog Norm 2.0. Given my clear obsession with doors, not sure why it took me so long! Visit his blog if you would like to see doors shared by others. There are quite a variety every week!
This sunny door is from the Thomas Hale House in Glastonbury, CT, c. 1714. It is one of the oldest homes in town. Mr. Hale was a tavern keeper in his day which was quite an important role in colonial times. Taverns had to be placed every few miles along main roads so that road weary travelers could stop to get something to eat and drink or possibly stay the night. Taverns were also one of the few places where public meetings could be held.
In any event, the bright yellow door makes me happy! Hope you enjoy.
My name is Deb Cohen, and I am a lifelong resident of Connecticut, a lover of all things historic and New England, and a realtor who helps buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals and dreams. When I’m not working, I enjoy life with my husband, our two adult children, and our two rescue pups. Renovating and decorating our historic home, dating to 1800, is another favorite pastime.
Deliciously yellow – very nice doors!
Thanks so much Jane!!
You don’t see a lot of yellow doors – these are handsome. Love the history lesson. 🙂
Thanks Judy! I thought they looked great against the white and would look pretty in any season! Glad you liked the tidbit of history 🙂
Bright yellow door and a red brick walkway leading up to it – works for me! Nice one and thanks for joining us this week 🙂
Thanks Norm!! Now that I figured out how easy it is to join I hope to be a regular. Thanks for hosting!
